Colorado Springs Police arrest 2 in string of financial institution robberies

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) — Colorado Springs Police arrested two Denver area residents accused of robbing four banks in Colorado Springs this month.

Police say the pair targeted the TCF Bank on North Union Boulevard and the First Bank on West Garden of the Gods Road on October 8. Then First Bank on East Cheyenne Mountain Boulevard on October 14, and the Chase Bank on Centennial Boulevard on October 15.

Keith Frey, 35, and Derek Rouse, 31, were taken into custody on October 20.

Both are charged with the first three robberies, while Rouse is charged with the robbery at the Chase Bank.

Investigators say since October 8, a total of 10 bank robberies have happened in Colorado Springs. Right now the pair are accused of four, and the CSPD Robbery Unit is investigating the remaining six.

Frey was booked into custody in Denver County, and Rouse is still being held in the El Paso County jail. Mugshots were not released.
