A man was shot in the leg late Wednesday night after someone tried to ambush him, Colorado Springs police said.

The victim walked home near the intersection of Astrozon Boulevard and Aerotech Drive around 9:58 p.m. when a man came up to him with a gun and asked the victim to empty his pockets.

When the victim hesitated, the robber threatened to shoot him, police said.

The victim turned and the robber shot him in the leg. However, the victim managed to stop a driver who was taking him to Memorial Hospital. The robber fled the area.

The victim's gunshot wound was serious but not life threatening, police said, and the victim will be operated on to remove the bullet.

Police could not find the robber or evidence of the shooting in the Astrozon Boulevard and Aerotech Drive area.

The robber has been described as a man who wore all black, was about 6 feet tall, and of medium height. He wore a black hat and black face covering.
